Menkupiai Mound

Menkupiai mound with settlement

About 9.5 km away from Vinksnupiai Manor, the Menkupiai Mound currently stands forgotten, unmaintained, overgrown with trees and bushes. The main elements are a platform (oval, approximately 49 × 40 m) and a rampart. The site is covered with permanent ploughing and excavated with pits. The rampart used to enclose the site on all sides, but most of it has now been destroyed.

The view from the mound used to be magnificent but is now blocked by trees. At its foot, a stream flows. Locals still remember how community members used to gather on the hilltop, build bonfires and dance.
